La Grennelais

Guglielmo de Cesbron de la Grennelais, (Gaeta, 1765 – Messina, 1823)

He was brother to Luigi, commander of the frigate Aretusa, who was executed in Naples on February 8, 1800. They were the sons of a French nobleman who had moved to Naples in 1743 and had pursued a military career in the Hainaut regiment, until he became the military governor of Manfredonia. Guglielmo was a cadet in the same regiment in 1775, later moving to the artillery. He was admitted into the Cisalpine artillery as a lieutenant 1st class in 1801. Returning to his homeland in 1806, he was made a knight of the Order of the Two Sicilies in 1815 and rose to the rank of lieutenant-colonel (cf. MSA, WO, 449, La Grennelais, Ettore de. 2000.
