Luigi Cosenz (Naples, 13 June 1776 – Portici, 30 June 1851)
Son of a shopkeeper from Amiens, Cosenz worked as a hydraulic engineer, then was made a lieutenant in the Neapolitan topographer corps during the Republic on 31 March 1799. He was believed to be French and therefore avoided conviction and could go to France. He served in his rank in the engineering corps of the Italian Legion from 5 June 1800, then was admitted to the Italian topographer corps as a lieutenant 1st class on 7 September 1802. He returned home in 1806, served in the army even during the Restoration, being promoted to colonel in 1827 and to brigadier in 1836. He left the army in 1849 (Cf.
