Casella

Calcedonio Casella (1770-1845)


Casella joined the Neapolitan infantry in 1792 and was promoted to captain during the Republic in 1799. He was admitted to the Italian topographer corps as a captain 2nd-class in 1802. He went back to Naples 1806, and the following year was made a battalion chief of the 1st line infantry. He fought in Spain and Germany, where he was severely wounded. In 1811 he was major of the 2nd light infantry, in 1813 colonel. He remained in service during the Restoration, retiring in 1820 (Cf. Giacchi, Niccolò. 1940.
