Rolando

Carlo Felice Rolando (b. Turin, 18 May 1769)


Rolando was licensed as a civil and hydraulic architect at the University of Turin, then moved to Milan in order to enter the Cisalpine engineering corps, where he was adnitted as a lieutenant 1st-class after an examination on 4 April 1798. He took part in the campaign of 1798-1799 in Italy, capitulating at fort Urbano and therefore going to France. He served in the Italian engineering corps brigade from 6 April 1800, worked at demolitions in Turin, then at the demolition of Milan castle. From 22 July 1801 and again from 26 April 1803 he was employed at the Rocca d’Anfo, while on 22 October 1801 he was made captain 2nd-class and on 11 August 1802 went to Verona to build new casemates at the Castelvecchio. On 6 October 1803 he was promoted to captain 1st-class and on 5 February 1812 to battalion chief. In 1815 he moved to France and pursued his military service, being naturalized as a French citizen (ASM, WO 1812, SHD, 2Ye 1499).
