Lespinasse

Augustin de Lespinasse (Pouilly-sur-Loire, 8 October 1737 – Paris, 23 November 1816)


Son of a lawyer, he served in the musketeers and in the cavalry before entering the artillery. He was decorated as a knight of Saint-Louis in 1788. Brigade chief (colonel) in 1793, he was struck off the list twice by the Committee of Public Safety in 1794, but managed to preserve his post as commander of the artillery of the army of the Western Pyrenees, and was promoted to brigadier. Participated in the First Italian Campaign and was promoted to lieutenant general in 1797. He was made a senator after Brumaire and was decorated as a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour in 1804. He was created a count of the Empire in 1808. He voted for the deposition of Napoleon and was made a Peer of France in 1814. He published Lespinasse, Augustin de. Year VIII [1800].
