François Nicolas Benoît Haxo (Lunéville, 24 June 1774 – Paris, 25 June 1838)
Haxo studied at the Châlons artillery school in 1792-1793, then was employed in the engineering corps from 1794 on. He participated in the Second Italian Campaign and was promoted to battalion chief. He worked on the Rocca d’Anfo and at Peschiera. He was chief of staff under Chasseloup in 1808, then served in Spain, where he was promoted to colonel in 1809, then to brigadier in 1810. Taken prisoner at Kulm in 1813, he came back to France in June 1814 and was made a knight of Saint-Louis. Served during the Hundred Days, was dismissed afterwards but only for 8 months. He was made a member of the Engineering Committee in 1830 and a State Councillor in 1831. He was decorated with the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour in 1833.
