Antoine François Andréossy (Castelnaudary, 6 March 1761 – Montauban, 10 September 1828)
Andréossy was of noble ancestry. He attended the military school at Sorèze and joined the artillery. Promoted to brigadier, he served in Egypt, where he became a member of the Egyptian Institute. Promoted to lieutenant general on 6 January 1800, he was director of the War Depot from 9 August 1801 to 29 May 1802, and thereafter ambassador to England, to the Austrian Empire and to the Ottoman Empire. He was named count of the Empire in 1809 and president of the War section at the Council of State in 1810. He was elected a member of the Academy of Sciences in 1823.
