Pompeo Montella (b. 1776)
Montella was an architect in the King of Naples’ service who began his military service in June 1799 as a lieutenant 1st class in the Neapolitan Republic engineering corps. He was taken prisoner at the fall of the Republic, spent six months in jail and was then exiled to France. He was admitted to the Cisalpine engineering brigade on 9 September 1800. After an examination he entered the Cisalpine topographer corps on 1 April 1802, then came back to Neapolitan service in March 1806 (SHD, 2Ye 2935, MSA, WO 2854, 543).
