La Carte

Alfred-Auguste de la Ferté Senceterre La Carte (b. Paris 1784 or 1785)

At 8 years of age La Carte entered the Vienna military school, where he studied mathematics and fortification. He left it as a lieutenant 1st class in the military engineers, but obtained his leave from Austrian service in October 1803. In May 1804 he was publicly examined on the subjects taught at the Modena school, except for integral calculus, and joined the Italian military engineers as a lieutenant 2nd class. He was promoted to lieutenant 1st class in 1808, and in 1809 he joined the French military engineers (cf. MSA WO 543, OR 92).
