Benedetto Gorio (b. Milan, 24 April 1767)
Gorio became a captain 2nd class in the Cisalpine artillery after an examination on 23 August 1798. He was promoted to captain 1st class in 1800, then battalion chief on 7 July 1803. He served as chief of the bureau of the 1st class of the second division at the War Ministry from 24 December 1800 to 20 August 1803, then as a subdirector at the theoretical-practical school in Pavia, then in Milan in 1813. He participated in the 1800 campaign in Italy, that of 1806 in the Papal States and the 1813 German campaign. He became a major in the Austrian infantry, but retired in 1816 (Cf. MSA, WO 2025, 112, 1584, OR 89).
