He was admitted to the topographer corps on 8 January 1801, then became comandante d\u2019armi in 1809 and commander of the company of sapeurs-pompiers in 1812. With the Restoration, he served in the Austrian army until 1820. He was a painter and illustrator of battles throughout his military career (cf.
