He was then promoted to brigadier in 1797, and later to lieutenant general in 1800. He was commander-in-chief of the artillery of the <em>Arm\u00e9e d\u2019Italie<\/em> as of 1806, going on to become commander-in-chief of the artillery of the imperial guard in 1811-12, and finally commander-in-chief of the artillery of the <em>Grande Arm\u00e9e<\/em> in 1813. He was appointed first inspector general of the artillery on 29 March of the same year. He served during the Hundred Days and was exiled in 1815-16, then was mayor of Saint-Sulpice.
