As a captain, he was examiner of the Cisalpine candidates for the engineering corps on 4 April 1798. Promoted to brigadier on 6 September 1800, to lieutenant general on 30 May 1807, he was made a count of the Empire in 1808. Having participated in the Hundred Days, he accompanied Napoleon to Saint-Helena. Sentenced to death <em>in absentia<\/em> in 1816, he was reinstated in his rank in 1821.
